Any good WoW Mage Leveling spec starts with first knowing the types of spells that a mage in World of Warcraft has at their disposal.One of the primary spell trees is the fire spell tree. The fire tree spells are primarily designed for doing fire based damage on targets. The spells in the frost tree are the next tree of spells for a mage. Frost spells lack the damage of fire spells, but are usefull for slowing down targets. The final tree of spells for mages is the arcane tree. While the damage for arcane spells is not the main focus, they are helpful for making other spells more powerful.

The fire tree of spells is what most of the good WoW Mage Leveling specs focus on. Damage per second is better for fire spells than it is for arcane and frost spells. Higher damage per second normally means enemies are dying fast. The chances of taking damage are greatly reduced when enemies die fast. Taking less damage is always a good thing and leads to less down time between battles. Being a death dealing machine helps improve survival.

While choosing the frost spells provides some enemy debuffs such as slowing or stopping movement, a mage fire talent build can quickly incinerate any opposition. Besides, a dead enemy deals less damage than a slowed one any day. In the end, killing an enemy quickly is the preferred method of leveling fast

The second thing to consider for a WoW Mage Leveling spec is what powers can amplify the attack spells of the mage. Talents such as Impact and Ignite might not seem great on their own, but once combined with a powerful area of effect spell like Blast Wave or Flamestrike, they can stun or cause additional damage to multiple targets. Same for a spell like Flame Throwing which adds range to fire spells, allowing the caster more time to cast spells as the melee targets try to close the distance.
